The National Portrait Gallery holds the most extensive collection of portraits in the world.

Just a short walk from The Trafalgar, the Gallery aims to bring history to life through its display, exhibition, research, learning, outreach, publishing and digital programmes. These allow them to stimulate debate and to address questions of biography, diversity and fame which lie at the heart of issues of identity and achievement.

What’s On: The Road to 2012

The National Portrait Gallery/BT Road to 2012 Project is a three year collaboration between the National Portrait Gallery and BT, the official communications services partner for London 2012. It will create 100 world-class photographic portraits celebrating both high-profile people and those working behind the scenes who collectively are making the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics happen. The Project tracks the preparation and implementation stages of the Games, with the theme for portraits over the next three years being ‘bid and delivery’, ‘staging’, and ‘legacy’.

Taste the trend


In celebration of London Fashion Week, we dedicated the month of September to fashion with a limited edition cocktail list entitled Taste The Trend.

Featuring A fashion-led mix of drinks and a delectable dessert that paid homage to this season’s biggest trends, available exclusively in Upper Rockwell, our award-winning bar.

Taking inspiration from the key looks straight off the Autumn/Winter Catwalk, we included ‘Nude Lace’; a play on the sexy allure of the romantic lace trend. This cocktail seduces with a smooth blend of creamy Mozart white chocolate liqueur with a devilishly decadent kick of Sauza tequila and the suggestion of coffee to finish. ‘Pretty Poetess’ is strong, classic and sensual, this cocktail is all woman – with a hint of bohemian, (a big trend for this season). Golden rum is stirred over ice with a hint of warming spice from our own green cardamom syrup and a slight herbaceous character from Angostura bitters.

They say Camel is the new black for this season so we lovingly created ‘The Girl in the Camel Coat’ – a wonderfully warming cocktail. Grand Marnier is used to deliver a citrus compliment to the chocolate dusting on this little sipper. A sweet nature but a hidden tequila temper.

Not forgetting dessert, our head chef Stirling Web, came up trumps with his special ‘Autumn Winter Assiette’, inspired by the muted colours for Autumn/Winter like the minimalist pieces of Aquascutum and Celine. This chic trio of chocolate, hazelnut and coconut desserts combined luxurious flavours with subtle textures and shapes, for a taste that is so on-trend. Spring/Summer 2011 editions are coming soon.

Fashion lounge debuts at the trafalgar


On the 20th of September 2010, We joined forces with Nolcha – a leading business platform for independent designers to bring the first ever London Fashion Lounge.

Showcasing their latest collections were British brands Sado, Eva Evanovich, Hetty Rose, Tammam, Fifi Bijoux and Segreto London who were joined by international newcomers Vivienne Pash, M Brulee, Peoples Pride, Narcisse, Gunas, Maison di Prima and Ana Guiterrez fusing influences from USA, Russia, India and Costa Rica.

Deb Pokallus, Bel Esprit Showroom owner, stated: “The London Fashion Lounge made a fabulous debut at the Trafalgar Hotel. The talented and creative designers showing their collections, along with the wonderful amenities provided by the hotel and Gina Conway Aveda made the Fashion Lounge a “must-see” event during London Fashion Week, and brought an impressive roster of industry editors, buyers and press to meet with the designers. The model presentation during the after party was well-received with a huge crowd snapping photos with cameras and phones. I’m looking forward to working on the next edition!”

Guests indulged in mini pampering sessions at The Aveda Beauty Oasis during the hectic London Fashion Week schedule providing manicures and massages. Our limited edition Taste the Trend cocktails were a hit amongst guests adding to the chilled and initiate scene allowing easy networking and brand previews. The event concluded with a cocktail party showcasing the collections to additional guests via model presentations.

The participating designers were celebrated throughout October with a cutting edge installation in our windows, introducing these rising fashion brands to consumers. The digital window signage invites consumers to interact and learn about the independent fashion brands dressing the mannequins.
